2112 is Now

Have you listened to Rush's 2112 lately?

We all watch the world evolving from one where individuality and self-reliance was highly valued to one where social saturation and centralized everything is the norm. If knowledge is power (it is), then more and more power is concentrated in fewer and fewer places than ever before. This is not news, which in itself is a sad testament.

The world in which you and I live is more and more like the future one portrayed in the lyrics of 2112 every day.

We've taken care of everything,
The words you read,
The songs you sing,
The pictures that give pleasure to your eye."

Google, Apple, Amazon, Facebook, X-formerly known as Twitter. Wow.

Don't annoy us further!
We have our work to do.
Just think about the average.
What use have they for you?"

The 'average' are mostly concerned with comfort and entertainment, and care little for anything that might disturb the gentle rocking of Mother's hand on their cradle.

"Just shut up and go back to wherever it is you came from," is the attitude of those in control, "You can't possibly understand what we're doing here." Does that sound familiar to you? It sure does to me.

The Priests of the Temples of Syrinx are now. We welcome them. We all buy what they are selling and to some degree, our lives are enriched by it. But all things come with those damned unforseen consequences.

I wish I felt like we were going to be OK. But while I await our destiny, I can salve my aching soul with the knowledge that at least one drummer in a rock and roll band felt like I do.

Rush's 2112 was and still is a thing that works!
