(The band, not the dog.)
You can call that an overstatement and you wouldn't be wrong.
40 Trips Around the Sun. Turn, baby, turn.
It's not that Toto ever really died , it's just as far as my life-path was concerned, they had ceased to exist. I had forgotten them. I recently rediscovered them, and so in my sphere of existence, they are reborn. It is a serendipity, and it is a wonderful thing.
I like Rock. I enjoy lots of different styles of music, but the music that moves me most has solid rhythms and wailing electric guitar. The bands of the 70's pretty much epitomize what I'm talking about. Toto was born in LA in 1977.
Toto's emergence during disco's pinnacle and the advent of punk put them at an immediate disadvantage. They really didn't belong to any specific genre. However, I think disco's pop/soul/funk influence is part of the band's staying power. Toto makes you want to dance.
From 1978's "I'll Supply the Love" through "99" and "Hold the Line" , to 1982's "Rosanna" and
"Africa" , I was reminded again and again how much I had heard and loved this band. There are so many good memories attached to this music.
It's really funny to me how time fades the memory of what were some of the best things in life. I'm really happy Toto came back into mine.
While Toto will never be "The Greatest Band in Rock & Roll", they are certainly a thing that works .
